The Rev. Tim Jones caused an uproar by telling his congregation that it is sometimes acceptable for desperate people to shoplift — as long as they do it at large national chain stores, rather than small, family businesses. Jones' Robin Hood-like sermon drew rebukes Tuesday from fellow clergy, shop owners and police. From his pulpit at the Church of St. Lawrence in York, about 220 miles (355 kilometers) north of London, Jones said in his sermon Sunday that shoplifting can be justified if a person in real need is not greedy and does not take more than he or she really needs to get by. The remarks drew a summons from Archdeacon Richard Seed, who said on his Web site that the church rejects the view that shoplifting can be acceptable. "The Church of England does not advise anyone to shoplift, or break the law in any way," he said. "Father Tim Jones is raising important issues about the difficulties people face when benefits are not forthcoming, but shoplifting is not the way to overcome these difficulties. There are many organizations and charities working with people in need, and the Citizens' Advice Bureau is a good first place to call," Seed's statement said. Eleanor Course, a spokeswoman for Seed, said the archdeacon wants to meet with Jones to discuss the "appropriateness" of his sermon. "The point we are most concerned about is that shoplifting is simply not a blameless, victimless crime," she said. "We want to make clear that it simply doesn't help people. And the last thing a desperate person wants is to be caught for shoplifting, so we feel this advice is very unwise." Jones told The Associated Press that he stands by his comments. He said he regretted only that the media is focusing on his view on shoplifting rather than the underlying problem he wanted to address. "The point I'm making is that when we shut down every socially acceptable avenue for people in need, then the only avenue left is the socially unacceptable one," he said, adding that people are often released from prison without any means of support, leading them back into crime. "What I'm against is the way society has become ever more comfortable with the people at the very bottom, and blinded to their needs," he said. He said shoplifting could help people who are legally entitled to government welfare benefits but have the benefits delayed for bureaucratic reasons. This approach was quickly rejected by members of the British Retail Consortium, a prominent trade organization trying to reduce theft. "It's the job of our welfare system, which retailers support with the billions they pay each year in tax, to help vulnerable people," said spokesman Richard Dodd. "There are no excuses for stealing." The North Yorkshire Police also condemned Jones' approach as counterproductive because people already in marginal conditions would find themselves in trouble with the law if they resorted to shoplifting. "First and foremost, shoplifting is a criminal offense, and to justify this course of action under any circumstances is highly irresponsible," a police statement read. "Turning or returning to crime will only make matters worse, that is a guarantee." People in need should turn to charitable organizations and government agencies for help, rather than take matters into their own hands, the police said. This large Pacific island was discovered by James Cook in 1774, and named Caledonia, the ancient name of Scotland, Cook's homeland. Favorable island climatic conditions and fertile soil had attracted the interest of European colonizers - traders, planters and missionaries. In 1853 France announced the island its colony. Then within 30 years the French government had deported many convicted criminals to New Caledonia. The struggle for independence of the Kanak people, indigenous people of New Caledonia, has a long and glorious history. A new stage of this struggle began in 1985 when “Kanak and Socialist National Liberation Front”, led by the outstanding son of the Kanak people Jean-Marie Tjibaou, started its activity. FLNKS had advocated the establishment of an independent Kanak state. The events on the Ouvéa Island in 1988 became culmination of the struggle. FLNKS fighters had taken hostage 27 French gendarmes and judge and demanded immediate independence. The French colonial authorities sent a special commando unit. As a result of bloody clashes, the rebels were forced to let gendarmes off. Jean-Marie Tjibaou was assassinated. But the colonizers realized that they can not longer maintain their dominance in the previous form and made some concessions. According to the Matignon (1988) and Nouméa (1998) Accord, New Caledonia was granted some minor attributes of independence (such as a local Caledonian citizenship, "national" flag, etc.) and some rights of autonomy. These agreements also set down that the people of New Caledonia will decide at the referendum whether it wants to remain under the authority of France. The holding of the referendum may not be earlier than 2014. There are pro-independence parties and anti-independence parties at today's New Caledonia political arena. It would be very unpleasant if another jewel of the Pacific - Solomon Islands, repeated the same mistakes. Solomon Islands achieved independence from Britain in 1978. This state with a population of over half million people consists nearly a thousand islands, whose total area is 28 thousand square km. A very significant part of the Solomon Islands population continues living in the conditions of traditional society, preserving its tribal and community structures. This is largely due to the fact that European colonizers settled on the Solomon Islands later than on the other Oceania archipelagos since they were given hard rebuff their activity. Only in the 60s years of the XIX century, the European traders, planters and missionaries succeeded a firm foothold on the islands. Since 1870, European slave traders and recruiters started to deliver the Solomon Islands inhabitants for working to the plantations in the Australian province of Queensland. The islanders were sold also to work on plantations in Fiji, New Caledonia and Samoa. While the islanders put up armed resistance, the slave traders were mercilessly killing those who resist or those who tried to flee. They staged bloody punitive expeditions and burned villages. The thousands islanders were dead of poor conditions and diseases on the plantations. The legacy of the dark period Anglo-Australian colonization is a lopsided economy based on exports such goods as tropical timber, fish, copra and cocoa. But even this undeveloped economy has been undermined as a result of tribal conflict in 1999-2003. In fact, the country has only just regained its economy. The state is now at the crossroads. Solomon Islands, like Nauru, are rich in mineral resources. There are explored deposits of lead, zinc, nickel, gold, bauxite and phosphates. anarchists [ rotte_volf ]	6:12p	Sunland submits proposals to Nauru Government. Nauru is the smallest republic in the world, located on the eponymous island in the Pacific. It has land area of 21.3 km ² and a population of 14 thousand people. To the misfortune of the islanders (alas, one can't say otherwise) the phosphorite reserves were discovered on the Island. Phosphate intensive mining has resulted in the destruction of soil cover and most of the island turned into a stone desert (later on, as a result of remediation activities it managed to restore 63% of vegetation cover of open pits). After achieving independence in 1968, the Nauru Government decided concentrate profits from its sole source of foreign exchange earnings to special Fund as the Government has foreseen phosphate reserves exhaustion. The funds were invested at buying property and financial services. The funds placement was given into the hands of so-called "experts" - financial managers from Australia and New Zealand. As a result of their well-paid "work" the islanders have find themselves with virtually nothing. In 90s the Nauruan stabilization fund dropped 10-fold - from 1.3 billion Australian dollars to 130 million. Easy money had disservice Nauruans because traditional economic activities were destroyed and people accustomed to the lifestyle of rentiers. Officially, 90% of islanders are unoccupied. Nauru is now in a very difficult situation and it would be very difficult to solve this package of problems even for the crisis manager out of the top drawer. We have some proposals for economic stabilization and development of Nauru, which were sent to the address almost all officials of this country. Из 100 000 активистов полиция напала именно на группу анархистов примерно в 16.00 по местному времени. Правоохранительные органы отсекли ультралевых от остальных с помощью автозаков, взяв колонну "в клещи". Остается неизвестным, что стало поводом для атаки - анархисты не предпринимали никаких агрессивных действий. После нападения полиции, анархисты сели на тротуар и потребовали освободить дорогу. Однако полицейские оцепили район и стали вытаскивать активистов по-одному. Надо отметить, что служители правопорядка действовали предельно корректно. Группа анархистов попыталась вырваться из оцепления, просочившись через дворик соседнего дома, однако им это не удалось. Приблизительно через час арестованных посадили в несколько рядов, скрутив руки пластиковыми наручниками. По оценкам журналистов, было задержано около 300 человек. Среди них по меньшей мере четверо наших соотечественников. Рассказывает очевидец: "Мы шли по намеченному маршруту. Наша колонна составляла примерно 700 человек, справа находилась реформистская группа "зеленых" и кришнаиты, позади - представители местной социалистической партии. У меня было плохое предчувствие - анархистов пытались спровоцировать непонятные сторонники капитализма, которые несли плакаты с надписями "Мы за рынок", "Продавец квот - крестоносец мира". Они обращались непосредственно к анархистам, кричали в мегафон и всячески привлекали внимание "левой колонны". После того, как мы прошли мост и попали в небольшой переулок, я почувствовал какое-то движение в толпе. Внезапно люди побежали вперед, началась давка. На секунду мне удалось оглянуться и я увидел, как полицейские машины берут в коробочку нашу колонну, отсекая её от остальной демонстрации. Впереди происходило тоже самое. Анархисты попали в ловушку - спереди и сзади выстраивалась полиция, по бокам были дома. Я подчеркну, что анархисты не совершали никаких насильственных действий. Через несколько секунд замешательства, активисты решили просто сесть на землю, показывая, что акция носит мирный характер. Полицейские стали выхватывать людей по одному, надевать на руки пластиковые наручники. Группа анархистов пыталась прорваться через подъезд дома, им удалось попасть во внутренний двор, который оказался тупиком. В это время остальная часть демонстрантов, которая оказалась вне зоны оцепления, скандировала: "Let them out!". Местные жители также горячо выражали свою поддержку анархистам. Жители одной квартиры проецировали на противоположной стене соседнего дома надпись на датском и английском "Let them out!" Через час полицейские арестовали всех активистов. Anarchist demonstrations happening across Greece is widespread. The cities of Volos, Samos, Tripoli, Zakinthos, Kalamata, Chania, Rhodes, Veria, Larisa, Paros, Lefkada, Mitilini, Katerini, Heraklion, Athens, Thessaloniki, Rethimno, Agrinio, Volos, Heraklion, Ioannina, Rhodes, Patras, Komotini, Larisa, Kilkis, Ksanthi, Karditsa, Lamia, Serres have all seen decent sized rallies and conflicts. Ritual Static struggles fiercly to get going with a few local college town shows, but nothing is doing. They end up with a June battle of the bands through Beach House Entertainment. The other bands were extremely trendy local emo, metal core, whigger rap metal bands, and Ritual Static did not place, but the 1 nice thing about this show was the massive crowd. Ironically, this may have been the single biggest show any Stevie Hayes Records band may have performed as far as the amount of people. There may have been 300 people at this show. The main problem was that due to the circumstance barely anyone knew Ritual Static was going to be there, and no one did care, because it was the wrong audience. It was video taped. Satan's Scrotum (Frankenstoner) & The Stevie Hayes Band recorded in this year. 2003: tons of albums recorded at home on recorder. The Big Bang album was finished and released in this year. Numerous Satan's Scrotum (Frankenstoner) albums were recorded in this year. 2004: continued to record. Frankenstoner & Ritual Static recorded in numerous pro studios. EVERYONE liked it, 1000's of people have complimented it. It was sent out everywhere all over the world. Just for Starters, The entire underground scene knows about it not too mention tons of people in the mainstream. The Stevie Hayes Band had 2 east coast tours booked in this year, & had to cancel the 1st one in March, because their band backed out on Stevie. Bands like Aliment, A Lot of Fire, & Wedusa performed at this show. It was another battle of the bands for Cash Money through Nite Life Radio. A Lot of Fire won the prize. The Rubes sports bar one was an "internal disaster" but an "external success". The Stevie Hayes Band booked the famous band The Esoteric to drive in from Lawrence Kansas, 10 hours. I heard the ruthless Pakistani was deported from the country, but I did not know the people to know what is true or false, I was just there to book & perform the show. Also in the fall, Satan's Scrotum formed another lineup from their 2003 3-piece and 2002 2-piece lineups. This time it was a 4-piece hoping to build even more, but it failed. This lineup lasted 4 jam sessions then backed out. 1 live recording and press kits were made. Frankenstoner & 69 Cent were interviewed on the Fuch Show Q101 FM Chicago in 2004, only Frankenstoners made it to the air. 69 Cent then tried again on Mancows Morning Madhouse Q101 2004, and got on the air for a second but was hung up on by an annoyed Mancow & Terd. The hilarious thing about it was the reason why they hung up. 69 Cent said, "yo yo yo Mancow, this is 69 Cent from The Big Delicious Thugs," & Terd said, "of course you are." & Mancow said "I suddenly just ran out of time for that call." and hung up. "When you think alternative rock, you think Q101." The statistics support that claim. In the last report (updated July 17, 2002), Q101 was the top rock station in Chicago, and eleventh overall, with a 3.1 percent share of the total listening audience.
